about
“You could have fooled anyone” is a song about seeing through someone and knowing that they aren’t what’s best for you, but you still indulging them regardless, even after they realise that you see them for what they are. Because you don’t know if that toxicity (that you hope settles to the bottom) is still gentler that the numbness of an existence without them, or if that’s just how unconditional fondness works. A song from a long time ago, that seems relevant now.
lyrics
Take your time
You’re still young, always beautiful, to me
Your design,
Like the sun, oh the moon and the sea
But today,
You’re the victim of, blue skies gone grey
In some way
You will know that I, I was the best you belayed
You could have fooled anyone but me (2)
Have you wine
Any wine at all, for the frosty squall to be
Love of mine,
You have won, you’re indelible, to me
Should I worry,
That I know you, but I do not know me
But I can't be sorry,
If I was a fool in love, but wise in my choice of company
You could have fooled anyone but me (4)
That you’d let it, that you'd let it show
But there’s a glimmer in the blue sea
I'm just the flicker in the movie
How should i've know
